So, I’ve been messin’ around with CT for about two months now, and I gotta say, it’s been a pretty good time, ya know?
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! The Game Rundown
Conquest Tactics? It’s a card game, but not like one of those collect-‘em-all things where you’re dumpin’ cash on random packs, hopin’ for a rare. Nah, this one’s got pre-set packs they’re plannin’ to release in the future. That right there? Sold me. I mean, sure, Magic and those games are fun, but let’s be real, who’s got that kinda dough?
The theme’s all fantasy, and the artwork? Chef’s kiss. You’re buildin’ up resources to play your cards—like troops, spells, or items—payin’ the cost printed on ‘em. Now, here’s where it gets interestin’: high-level units? You got options. Either cough up a big pile of resources or “level up” a lower-tier unit. The beauty here is, you’re not boxed into one strategy. You gotta watch your opponent, think ahead, maybe even psych ‘em out.
Oh, and when you play cards, you’re also ploppin’ ‘em onto a 5×5 board where the real action happens—movement, combat, the works. So, it’s not just about when you play, but where. Adds this layer of strategy that I’m totally diggin’.
The Factions
1. Kadortha: Strong outta the gate, packin’ a punch with their attack units.
2. Malice: Dark magic vibes. Weak starters but, man, those high-level units hit hard.
3. Humans: Jack-of-all-trades—magic, combat, range. Solid balance.
Each one’s got its own unique flavor, which is great. Normally, I’d stick to one style, but here? I’m havin’ fun experimentin’ across the board. Now, technically, you could mix factions in a deck, but right now? Doesn’t seem super effective.
The Catch
After a while, it starts feelin’ a little… samey. Once you know the cards, it’s less about outsmartin’ your opponent and more about guessin’ what they’re gonna pull next. Plus, the sample decks? Kinda just a tease. Like, I wanna build this epic ranged unit setup with the humans, but I don’t got enough cards for it. Still, it shows the potential.
Final Thoughts
So, do I like it? Yeah, absolutely. I’m really hopin’ for more cards down the line—something to crank up the customization and let me cook up some crazy combos.
Now, lemme give a shoutout to the devs. These guys? Top-notch. The game started as a CCG, which, honestly, had me rollin’ my eyes. I posted somethin’ like, “Oh great, another CCG,” and turns out, I wasn’t the only one feelin’ that way. The devs listened—like, really listened—and shifted gears to this non-CCG format. Respect.
Oh, and Andy, one of the developers? Stand-up guy. Chatted with him a few times about the rules and the game on BGG. He even asked me to rate it, which I did honestly. And for the record, this is the only game I’ve ever felt compelled to rate. That’s sayin’ somethin’, huh?
Whaddya think?
